Welcome to the official 1st Comber Venture Scout Web Site
This site has been created and posted for all you people (young and not so young) out there nosey enough to actually want to know about this site and our unit.
The site was created using Arachnophilia, that's right all the HTML tags where typed in one at a time. And was created on a range of different computers at my ( Phillip ) work and home. The host for these pages is Tripod INC who provide free web hosting. (When I say free you actually get 11Mb of space so they can give you a silly little pop-up window and set a lot of cookies. Anyone who does not like cookies, I apologise.) We use this service as we can't afford to pay for anything else. Sponsorship welcome.
The site itself is updated as often as I have the time to do it and hopefully reflects the thoughts and ideas of what scouting is to our Venture Scouts. The way they perceive Scouting is probably a bit different to everyone out there as we have members who used to be Scouts, Guides and just plain members of the public.
This page will now take on the guise of an FAQ.
Now what are all those words down the side for? These section buttons will take you to all the different parts of the site that you will want to look at, we hope that they should be self-explanatory but here's a list for you anyway:-
- HOME
- this takes you back to the start/index/home page of the site
- LINKS
- The things that this here internet thingumajig is based on.
The Links are sorted into UK sections, so International visitors should chose the nearest approximation. The sections are then sorted into country. this should make it easy to find any site you like, we are hoping to get a search on these pages in the future and maybe a random link.
- PEOPLE
- All about us the people of the Unit.
- PLACE
- One of the Ventures suggested we just show you a picture of a big fish, but that wasn't very informative so you get a bit of a history of Comber instead.
- PROGRAM
- One of the better bits (or it soon will be), this bit lets you know what we are up to and what we have been up to, it is being reworked at the moment to include past programs going back to the early 80's, won't that be exciting!
- INFO
- This bit is the technical bit, well sort of. This bit should let you know about all the different areas of scouting in the UK, It has all sorts of information on the different sections. If anyone wants to help write this bit feel free to let us know.
- ACTIVITIES
- About some of the activities our unit has been involved in in the past.
- GUESTBOOK
- The Guestbook
Don't those graphics take a long time to load? This is a silly question that several people ask. My unfortunate answer is, 'You tell me' I work on this locally so as not to upset the counter
You mention Alcohol! Shock Horror Yep. Venture scouts are for the age group 15½ to 20 years of age so the ventures for at least half of their Venture Scouting Lives can legally drink in this country (the age limit here is 18). Alcohol is not encouraged in Scouting and not in our unit, anyone under the legal age will not be encouraged or be given the chance to buy or consume alcohol at any scouting events or when socialising with other members of the Unit. We do not under any circumstances encourage any form of alcohol consumption by minors nor do we encourage abuse of illegal substances. Snuff said.
How often do you update your site I attempt to keep it as up to date as is possible. Unfortunately with one thing or another people can be just far to busy with school, work, having a good time and Scouting to get things Typed or written down. I attempt to keep any info as accurate and up to date as possible. One thing however is our program, it should run all year but there are times when we haven't got one eg. during the summer months, or when we don't get around to getting one made up.
Is Shelley single? No
When can I come along and join in? Any Thursday night when we are in the hall, or you can contact us and let us know when you'd like to come down we'll sort it out from there.
I hope that is most of your questions answered, if not why not drop us a line or 2 and we'll be more than happy to sort everything out for you. You can contact the unit at the following address 1stcomber@bigfoot.com Thanks for listening, come again soon
